When I first started venturing out on my own after separating from my spouse, one of my main destinations was the Sausalito Seahorse. There is live Salsa music, and the dance class is at 4:00 PM. This was early enough for me to get a lesson in and dance for an hour before I needed to dash home. The music makes you feel alive, and the crowd feels like family. In fact many of the people there have known each other for decades, and are part of the Bay Area salsa community.
The decor is a blend of found objects & marine themed objects d’art. There is absolutely no where else in Marin where you can throw off your stiffness like here. The all ages dance floor becomes a transport portal to a time and place where drums, color, music, food, and clinking of cocktails float through the warm tropical air.
There is usually a small cover when the band is playing, and the band can sometimes be 20 people up on stage with drums, horns, keyboard, shakers, and a wide range of instruments that make salsa music come alive!
